All plants produce yellow flowers which bloom in early spring; however, only female plants produce spicebush's striking red berries in late summer. Growing spicebush from seed is a great way to support your local wildlife, especially swallowtail butterfly larvae who feed exclusively upon spicebush leaves and birds that feed on its berries. Plants reach heights of 6-12 feet at maturity and grow in zones 4-9.
